Glastonbury 2013 by Levi

Glastonbury is one of the largest music festivals in the world.  It is on a large farm in England and there were over 200,000 people in attendance.  I got to see the Rolling Stones last night and it was the best concert ever!  There were many fun activities for kids like trampolines (without liability waivers), giants slides, street performers and circuses!  The hot dogs are foot-long sausages and they put french fries (chips), cheese and baked beans on them.  It rained hard on Thursday and got very muddy.  Luckily we all brought rubber shoes (Wellies).  The next two days were perfect!  We camped all three nights in the Wicket Grounds family camping.  Kids get in for free!

Our tent on a rainy Thursday...it did not leak!!!

Bouncing on trampolines

We slid down this giant slide on door mats.

We played a giant game of twister with 686 dots!

The Rolling Stones rocked!

The pyramid stage.  Look at all the tents on the far hillside.

More Stones!

Waiting for the train to Bristol after a big night!

Camping in Iceland by Mac

We had a blast camping our way around Iceland.  What a beautiful place with equally beautiful people. There are few trees and the volcanic terrain makes you feel at times that you are on another planet.  We explored many caves and waterfalls.  We were there for the longest day of the year and it never got dark.

That's our tent in the lower left corner.

Up high in the mountains we found snow!

We swam in the hot blue lagoon and rubbed white mud on our faces.

D.C, N.Y.C., Reykjavik and now in England

We had a great time in D.C. and NYC  and flew out of JFK on June 20 to arrive in Iceland for the summer solstice!  I'm behind in posting because we spent the week camping and haven't had much wifi  access plus a minor mishap when we left our laptop and ipad in the Reykjavik airport!  Luckily someone took it to lost and found and we were able to retrieve it when we went back to the airport.(Love Iceland!)
Iceland is breathtakingly beautiful!  We are now in London about to catch the bus to Glastonbury.  Here are a few photos.  I'll post some more as soon as we get settled in Glastonbury....assuming there is wifi
on the Mall in D.C.

North Carolina to Kentucky

We left Linville NC and drove to Kerr Lake for the annual family picnic.  Although our visit was short we had a great time.  I just wish I had the camera or phone on my Randy's boat to capture pictures of Lane, Randy, Mac, and Michael water skiing.  It went something like this.....no handle on the tow rope?....no problem just find a stick and run it through the rope, voila...instant handle!  Skis too big, won't stay on your feet?...no problem, just hold on to the stick and "ski" without them.   Haven't waterskied in 25 years?....no problem it's as easy as you remember, right??  .... We're hoping Lane's knee feels better before we have to do too much walking.  He looked great doing it though!

Next we enjoyed a nice visit with friends Peter and Sherri in Lynchburg and then on to Kentucky for a nice stay with my Mom and Dad:
Enjoying the beautiful day by rock jumping and hiking!
like Mac's new look?
finding cool caves with Uncle Kevin
A trip across the river to Huntington to visit Camden Park ....has to be one of the oldest amusement parks in the country, opened in 1903

and the kids love the WOODEN roller coaster....must be one of only a handful left in the country!

Hiking The Profile Trail by Wiley

The Profile Trail is 5 miles long and goes from the bottom of Grandfather Mtn to the top.  The hike has ladders and ropes and slippery rocks.  The hike was scary because we were on the edge of cliffs while hiking through clouds.  Here are some pictures!

We are in the clouds at the top of MacRae Peak.

We made it to the top!

Getting back down.

....and down

We made it!

House Empty, Cars Sold, We're on the Road!

Finally catching up on the blog!
We got it all done on schedule...and we're on our way!!
We moved everything out of our house and the tenants move in on the 4th of June.  We left St. Pete Friday afternoon to drive to Linville, NC where we will spend a week with Lane's family.  We will make a quick stop in Raleigh for my family reunion then it's on to KY for a visit with my family.

We will spend a couple of days in D.C. where we turn in the rental car, then take the train to NYC where we fly out 6/20 to our first overseas destination, Iceland.

Packing up....Wiley bubble wraps his prized snow globe collection!

Moving day....Halloween costumes and Christmas hats provided a fun break from moving boxes!

Lane negotiates selling our cars back to the dealer!  What a great feeling....no more car payment, no more insurance payments!
